Crawlux adds FinancialProduct schema validation to core audit
New validator tests token pages against schema.org FinancialProduct. Crawlux survey of 207 token sites finds 76% use the wrong schema type. 14 fields checked, severity flagged per field.
LONDON · MARCH 10, 2026
Crawlux this week added FinancialProduct schema validation to its core audit pipeline. The validator tests token pages against the schema.org FinancialProduct specification and reports which required and recommended fields are missing.
Schema.org defines FinancialProduct as the correct type for tokens, stablecoins and other crypto assets. Most crypto sites use generic Product schema, which causes search engines and AI crawlers to index tokens like commercial merchandise. The result is wrong category placement, broken rich results and weak AEO citations.
A Crawlux analysis of 207 token sites found 158 used Product or no schema at all. 17 used FinancialProduct correctly. The remaining 32 used a mix of Product, Article and custom CryptoToken schemas that do not exist in schema.org. The audit also flags incorrect application of CryptoCurrency schema, which Google deprecated as a standalone type in 2024.
The new validator checks 14 fields including provider, feesAndCommissionsSpecification, interestRate, annualPercentageRate for staking and lending, category, image, currency and url. Output flags each missing field with severity (required, recommended, optional) and provides a fix suggestion with copy-paste-ready JSON-LD.
A common worked example: a DeFi lending protocol marks up its USDC supply pool with Product schema, declaring "category": "Crypto". The Crawlux validator flags this as a required-field violation, then generates the FinancialProduct alternative including provider (the protocol DAO), interestRate (the live supply APR from on-chain data) and feesAndCommissionsSpecification (the protocol fee structure). The migration takes roughly 20 minutes per token page once the data sources are wired.
The validator runs automatically inside the Crawlux audit pipeline as part of the Token Schema Audit module. It also ships as a standalone free tool at crawlux.com/free-tools/token-schema-tester, launching March 17.
Schema choice is one of the highest-impact fixes in crypto SEO. Sites that switch from Product to FinancialProduct typically see corrected category placement within 14 to 21 days. AI citation rates often improve in the same window because crawlers reclassify the content. Crawlux beta data shows median AEO citation rate improvement of 18.4% within 30 days post-migration across 47 measured cases.
For multi-chain tokens, Crawlux also validates the use of sameAs and url to declare canonical token identity across chains. A canonical declaration prevents AI engines from treating the Ethereum and Polygon variants of USDC as different products.
The Token Schema Audit module ships as part of every Crawlux audit tier including the free tier. The 14-field check list is documented openly at crawlux.com/blog/crawlux-methodology for teams that want to self-audit before submitting to Crawlux.
Take
FinancialProduct schema is the difference between your token getting indexed as a financial asset and your token getting indexed as a Halloween costume.
